For me, there is only one wheel that does the job for a distance pusher…The Seismic Speed Vent 85mm 79a
The criteria for a good distance wheel is quite particular. Most of us agree that 85mm is just the right size but there is a lot more too think about.
You need grip, but you dont want a sticky, soft wheel because they tend to slow you down….However, you dont want it to be too hard, a hard wheel is very very uncomfortble and causes the dreaded ‘White foot’ (An excruciating pain that comes from the vibrations pulsing through your board foot). The magic duro seems to be either 79a on Seismic wheels or 80a on Abec wheels. A bit of predictable slide is nice too, for safety’s sake.
The Seismic seems to have the right shape too, and i like the feel of the square edges.
The new Seismic Black Ops thane feels really responsive too….
Basically i love these wheels and i thought i’d share them.

No mention of Distance Skating on the Seismic page..but oh well.
The very fastest wheel in the world - used by Joel King of England to set a Guinness World Record of 114.7 mph on a jet-powered luge! The 85mm Speed Vent is molded around our proprietary weight-saving Energy Conversion Core – possibly the raciest, sexiest core on the market. The 85mm diameter gives it the roll speed of a downhill wheel, while the weight-saving core adds the quickness and agility of a smaller wheel, as well as enhanced rebound. Combined with lips designed for pure grip, the 85mm Speed Vent is utterly unique among high-end wheels. Breakthrough performance for longboarding, downhill, GS, and even Hybrid slalom.

Very cool to read your comments here, Ben! Thanks for your enthusiasm about our wheels! We’re working on an update to our websie right now. What sort of material on LDP would you suggest we include?

Howdi Dan,
Thanks for reading…How did you notice this post so quickly?
Its not so much the LDP use that im talking about here. Its the vent’s value as a pushing wheel! I rode them for over 800 miles in the summer and they still feel amazing (Despite one of them being run over by a car…).
I do like them on the Subsonic century though, they LDP great on there!
Thanks for reading dude

I love my speed vent 82a duro. I like the slightly harder wheel for drifting on downhill runs. I can see how 79a would be better for very long distances though.

Great wheel for doing ‘big’ journeys on. They have the roll of a bigger wheel but the acceleration of a smaller one. My original prototype (pink with yellow cores) set did the whole of NZ and are still going very strong!
